Role Overview

Reporting to the Occupational Health Lead, the Technician, Health Centre is responsible for the collection of biological samples for the Biological Monitoring Program at Trail Operations’ Health Centre, while adhering to strict safety and hygiene regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor health, safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Set up plant testing for both internal employees and external parties including liaising with supervision to send in individuals requiring testing, determine which individuals require follow-up and on-going monitoring and provide test results directly to individuals of concern
  • Compile, label, and store confidential information, maintain information in applicable systems and identify defects and enhancements to systems as required and generate and create reports
  • Collect, handle, and store bio-hazardous materials
  • Collect, package and mail samples to out-of-Province vendors following requirements as outlined by Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act
  • Ensure adherence to the standards of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC’s Diagnostic Accreditation Program as it relates to this role.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a minimum of a current certificate for a Medical Lab Assistant and recent phlebotomy experience is necessary
  • Professional demeanor and a need for safeguarding patient confidentiality is a necessity
  • Occasionally be able to work after hours and weekends if need arises
  • Good computer skills (MS Excel/Word) and a quick learner for Teck-based systems (JD Edwards, EtQ, Qlikview)
  • Must be a team member and have the ability to work independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are a must
